Critical Writing Workshop
About Event:
Sunday, October 05, 2025 (16:00-18:00) Timing (IST)
Asia-Pacific region experiences one of the highest numbers of hazardous events globally; vulnerability and coping capacity of the people in the region probably are areas to improve to manage the regional risks and bring resilience.
Capacity building of young researchers and Disaster Management Professionals undoubtedly becomes one of the strongest tools for preparedness and mitigation. Looking at the existing gap, a Critical Writing Workshop catering to the field of hydrological risk management and mitigation is planned.
Objectives of the workshop:
- Critical Thinking, Writing, and Communication Skills Development The ability to analyze hydrological data and risk patterns critically, and to translate these insights into clear, compelling writing, is fundamental to shaping effective responses.
- Strengthening Documentation and Data Collection Approaches Documentation plays a key role in and so participants will be introduced to methods for structured documentation, reporting, and integrating traditional and scientific knowledge.
- Leveraging Ability for Scientific Publication
With global academic platforms increasingly focusing on climate and water-related risk, the ability to publish in high-impact journals is essential. The workshop will guide participants through the stages of academic writing, from abstract formulation to peer-review response, specifically targeting journals in the domains of hydrology, climate science, and disaster risk reduction.
- Strengthening Skills to Develop Easy-to-Understand Knowledge Products Technical knowledge must be transformed into actionable information. The workshop will provide strategies for developing user-friendly knowledge products.
- Networking Among Young Professionals Through interactive group tasks and thematic writing exercises, participants will engage with peers working in diverse contexts yet facing shared challenges.
- Building Connections with International Experts and Publishers A key strength of the workshop is its facilitation of dialogue between young professionals and senior scholars, editors from leading journals, and experts from international organizations. This cross-generational exchange will help young researchers gain feedback on their work and understand current trends in scientific publishing, data communication, and knowledge mobilization.
